I recently broke my Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM and had to repair it myself. Here is how to fix a Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM – or simply how to open the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM.
Before you start: you will need those tools:
- Small Screwdrivers
- Electrical tape
- Tweezers
- Cleaning kit
- Sharp blade
- Plastic tools – same as for smartphone repairs
Here is the video of what happened. (don’t forget to subscribe if you’re new – I publish awesome photography videos from around the world). Read below for the step by step photos to repair
Start from the top of the lens – Remove the screw
Lift the flange and don’t forget to take a photo to see how the « weights » are positioned
Disconnect the flat cables
More screws
Insert thin and non sharp plastic part under the rubber to remove it
Remove the tape to find the screws under
I found my spare part on this website: encompas Sony 1635 GM
