How to open the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM – Tear down

I recently broke my Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM and had to repair it myself. Here is how to fix a Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM – or simply how to open the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM. 

Before you start: you will need those tools:

  • Small Screwdrivers 
  • Electrical tape
  • Tweezers 
  • Cleaning kit
  • Sharp blade
  • Plastic tools – same as for smartphone repairs

Start from the top of the lens – Remove the screw

Lift the flange and don't forget to take a photo to see how the “weights” are positioned

Disconnect the flat cables

More screws

Insert thin and non sharp plastic part under the rubber to remove it

Remove the tape to find the screws under
